Disclaimer: Welcome to chapter 7 of The Square Peg. This story contains a relationship between a mtf and a ftm. Things don’t always go perfectly. If you haven’t read the previous chapters, much of this won’t make sense. Vonnie goes by the name Kevin at school and at home, and by Veronica at work. Drew goes by Andrea at school, and his dad sometimes calls him Junior. All persons having sex are over the age of 18.

The next morning, I couldn’t wipe the smile from my face. Even doing the leg exercises for the first time with the resistance band for my butt and hips, I grinned through it all.
The night prior was magical. So magical, I almost sang in the shower. Which might have shattered the mirror. It probably would have been okay, but best not to chance it. Better safe than sorry. The only thing that could have made it better was if Drew could have stayed the night afterward.
I’d really have liked to woken up with him.
When Drew’s Humvee pulled up to the curb, my smile went up a couple degrees, and I almost skipped over to him.
He opened the passenger door for me as was his habit, but I wasn’t settling for a peck this morning.
“Hey Vonnie,” he greeted, and bent down to kiss me good morning. I put my hands on his face to hold him in place, and poured my heart into it.
To his credit, he kissed me back like it was a normal, everyday thing we did. I pulled back, giggled at the look on his face, and gave him one last quick kiss before letting him go and hopping up and into the seat.
Drew needed a moment to remember where he was, and I just grinned widely at him until he finally shut the door.
When he finally got into the driver’s seat, I stole his arm, put his hand on my thigh, and wrapped myself around his purloined limb. I may have also rubbed my face on his big hard bicep like a cat.
“You’re awfully affectionate this morning,” he commented, content to drive with one hand.
“If you make love to me like you did last night, I think you can expect me to be like this after,” I cheerfully admitted.
“It was something else, wasn’t it?”
“The best,” I corrected him. “So, did your Dad actually like me, or was he just being polite?”
Drew gave me a sideways look, “Couldn’t you tell?”
I shook my head against his arm. “No. I can’t get a read on him at all.”
“Yeah, he liked you. I mean, we had to convince him that you weren’t a ringer first, but…”
“A ringer? What’s that supposed to mean?”
Drew rolled his eyes. “He was half-convinced that you were an actress I hired to be the perfect girlfriend. Mom and I set him straight, don’t you worry.”
“Oh.” I wasn’t sure how to take that, so I just moved on. “But after that, it was good?”
“He asked me how sure I was that you weren’t just after my money… never have I laughed so hard. It took minutes for me to be able to make any kind of sense after that.”
“Oh God, he thinks I’m a gold digger?” This couldn’t be worse!
“No, no. Calm down, babe.” He gave me a gentle squeeze where he was grasping my thigh. “That’s a question he had to ask. After that, well… let’s just say that you have full dad-approval, okay?”
I glanced up at him, and he looked really uncomfortable. “What aren’t you telling me, Drew?”
He looked down at me for a moment before refocusing on the road. “I, uh… I think what he said was; ‘She looks like that, cooks like this, loves you that much, and gets mad if you spend too much money on her? You had better marry that girl, Drew.'”
I laughed and laughed, right up until I noticed that I was the only one laughing. “Drew? Honey? Is that… is that something you’ve been thinking about?”
He shifted in his seat and glanced at me again. “It’s not like I sit around all day, every day, and dream about it or anything like that. It mainly hits me when I watch you cook. I get pulled into a fantasy of us living together. As man and wife, you know? Just… domestic bliss, I guess? Happily ever after.”
I rubbed my face on his arm again. At least now I knew why he gets all spacey while I cook. “It’s a nice dream, Drew. Let’s not put any serious thought into it at least until we’ve graduated, alright?”
The entire drive to school, I cuddled his arm and couldn’t stop myself from randomly kissing his muscles. Drew considered me as his happily ever after? Yeah, I was going to be in a full-on cling this morning, especially now.
******
I held Drew’s hand all the way from the parking lot to inside the school, right up until we had to separate to our too-far-apart lockers. I made him kiss me in front of God and everybody before I let him go, too.
All through my morning classes I was in that state. Just brightly smiling and barely able to concentrate.
When our lunch period came, I sat down and smiled at everyone, and didn’t wait for Drew to pull me into his side. I scooted in the second his butt hit the bench.
“What’s up with you, Kevin?”
I looked at Shausty and my smile brightened to mega-watt range just thinking about it. Nicole Betturkey and Ava both started choking, and I turned to them, concerned.
Unable to speak, both of them waved off my concern in their own particular ways.
“Aaaaah. Got you some, did ya?” Shausty teased.
I couldn’t fight the stupid smile on my face, and hadn’t been able to all morning, so I didn’t try. I also didn’t want to come straight out and admit anything, either, so I just kept grinning.
“Jesus, Andrea. What you do to him?”
Drew turned my head so he could see my face, and that same really bright smile poked out again once my eyes landed on his face. I saw his expression change from curiosity to lust in an instant, and uncaring that we were in the middle of a packed lunchroom, he french-kissed me with purpose.
I happily kissed him back, until an insistent throat clearing interrupted us. We broke apart to look up at a very tall, burly woman with short hair and a whistle around her neck.
“Andrea,” the woman said, “you know that there’s rules against that sort of thing on the grounds.”
“Sorry Coach,” Drew apologized.
Ever been in trouble but unable to stop grinning? That was so me as Drew’s coach turned her gaze my way.
“And you are…?” she asked leadingly.
I almost answered with the name ‘Vonnie’. “V… Kevin. Kevin Hanson.” That could have been disastrous. I needed to get my focus back!
She looked a little startled at that for some reason, before telling me, “I’m Coach Morgan. I’m going to let you two off with a warning, don’t let me catch you again. Got me?”
“Yes Ma’am.”
“Yes, Coach.”
She eyeballed us for a moment before continuing on her way. The table burst into giggles and Drew curled his arm around my neck, pulling me close enough to whisper, “You can’t blindside me with your super-smile at school, babe. I can’t control myself if you do.”
I didn’t even know I had a level of smile that rated as ‘super’. “Sorry, Honey.”
“So, what’s up with you two, for real?” Shausty inquired.
I looked at my boyfriend, willing him to field this one.
Drew nodded his head side to side, debating on how much to share. “Kevin cooked supper for me and Mom and Dad last night. I may have been very appreciative afterward.”
“Looks like you appreciated his brains right out. Hold up, this was the first time he met them, right? An’ he was the one cooking? He can cook?”
“I cooked to make a good first impression on her Dad, but I met her Mom last weekend. It seemed to work okay, I guess.” I was in too good of a mood to get irritated at being talked about like I wasn’t there, especially since it was my fault that I didn’t speak to begin with.
Drew pulled me in tight for a one-armed hug with the arm around my neck. “Better than okay. It was a big hit, even if it got Mom in the doghouse this morning.”
“What?” What happened that Renee got in trouble?
Drew started laughing. “So this morning, I get downstairs to the kitchen, planning on having the leftovers for breakfast, and there’s Dad sipping his coffee looking grumpy, and Mom’s got a guilty look on her face. I open the fridge, and there’s nothing left.”
“I guess Mom got up in the middle of the night, snuck downstairs, and polished off the rest of both the hot dish and the salad. Dad’s sitting at the table and pouting because he wanted to eat it this morning too. So yeah, Kevin’s cooking was a big hit at my house.”
I fought my blush and lost. These were people who seemed to have everything, and with very little effort I gave them something that all three of them treasured, as short-lived as it was.
“Well damn. Good on you, Kevin!”
I smiled, “Thanks, Shausty.”
“Now that that’s out of the way, have you given any thought to my little problem?” Jenny looked so hopeful, but I really hadn’t thought about it at all. I was completely consumed with worrying about meeting Drew’s dad since just before she had asked me.
I bit the inside of my lip, “Are you sure you want to talk about this in front of everybody?”
She glanced nervously around the table, and shrugged helplessly.
I ran my fingers through my hair. “Okay, first things first. I’m assuming that you are a virgin. If your hymen is still intact, it’s going to hurt the first time, and there will be blood.”
Jenny immediately darkened to purple and shrieked, “Kevin!”
The rest of the girls started protesting what they thought was a very awful and insensitive thing to say.
I waved them all off. “If you can’t even talk about this, I don’t think I can help you, Jenny.”
Jenny took a deep breath and tried to gather herself together. “No, he’s right guys. Okay… so, pain and blood?”
“Right. Anything you hear about girls having an orgasm their first time? Unless they’ve already broken their hymen, they’re lying. Not going to happen. It will get better after that, okay? Just don’t freak out over the blood, it’s perfectly normal.”
She chewed her lip nervously. “What else?”
“You need a Betturkey Giriş place. One with a bed. You don’t want your first time to be in the backseat of a car, right?”
“Kevin,” Ava cautiously interrupted, “how do you know all this?”
I blew out a breath, making my cheeks puff out. I admitted, “I was terrified that my first time was going to go poorly, so I did what we nerds do. I studied my butt off.”
She looked disbelieving. “You don’t really think you can know all about this just by studying, do you?”
Drew squeezed me in tight. “He knows what he’s talking about. Trust me. When he wants to, he can play me like a violin.”
“Andrea!” I complained.
Drew glanced at me, and a mischievous grin crept up his face. “Made me pass out once,” he further incriminated me, and I started poking him in his side while he tried to defend himself while laughing his head off. Sure, they were our friends, but still! Private details!
“Whoa. He really made you pass out?” Jenny asked wonderingly.
Drew looked at Jenny while keeping an eye on me for further attacks. “Yeah, one time. It was awesome.”
“No more details! I mean it!” I wasn’t truly angry, but it was still embarrassing and I didn’t need the others looking at me differently. Like Nicole still did from time to time, especially after she got a good look at Little Richard in the flesh.
I finally turned my attention away from my blabbermouth boyfriend, and Jenny and Ava were looking at me with new eyes. Drew had already bragged to Shausty, and I’d told Nicole.
Oh no. I decided to get the conversation back on track.
“Okay, as far as Eugene goes, his first time he’s going to go off, like, right away. Maybe in his pants. If you laugh, or are mean about it, that’s the kind of thing that can damage a guy for life, okay? Just be understanding, and let him know that it’s alright, but that you’re totally not letting him go until after round two. He’ll be ready again before you know it.”
“Okay… but how do I get him there?” Jenny looked despaired.
“Maybe, next time you’re kissing, run your hand up under his shirt. Let him know that it’s okay for him to touch you too. But, and this is the most important thing I will ever tell you about any of this, you have to communicate with him. He can’t read your mind, so tell him what you like as you find it, and what you don’t.”
Jenny swallowed hard. “Like, like what?”
I shrugged, “Once you give him the green light, he’s probably going to go right for your boobs. If he’s squeezing too hard, let him know. If he’s not squeezing hard enough, let him know that too. If Gene’s as smart as he seems, he’ll be grateful that he doesn’t have to blunder around. That advice applies to everything, by the way.”
“Okay. Start with touching. I can do that… I think.” I didn’t know if she was trying to convince me or herself.
“Make sure you have condoms. That’s important, don’t rely on him to have any. Now, first base is kissing. Second base is touching. Third is under the pants touching. Home is actual sex. That’s as good of a plan as any. Just… seriously, don’t think that you have to finish what you start if it doesn’t feel right, okay? That’s how terrible sex happens.”
The surprising thing was that Jenny wasn’t the only one with a thoughtful look on her face after that last bit of advice.

Nicole gave me a ride home from school, as Drew and Shausty had something planned for right after classes ended. Which was good, as something had been bothering me since lunch and I wanted to ask her about it.
“Can I ask about why both you and Ava started choking when I smiled at lunch today?”
“Oh, that. So you know how, like, if anyone spends any time with you when you’re Vonnie, that’s like all anyone can see after, right?”
I shifted a little. “Yeah, that’s a thing I guess. So?” I asked leadingly.
“Right. So you pulled out this supermodel smile, and it was like, way super-powerful. Like, you turned into this totally beautiful woman for a second, and it caught both of us by surprise. But, on the plus side, Ava is way more understanding about my little crush on you now, so… thanks for that?”
“Oh. Wait, Ava? What’s… I don’t understand.”
“Ava is totally not into anyone with a wiener at all, and even she agreed that you can be stupidly pretty when you smile like that, even when you’re trying to be Kevin.”
“How does she even know about… you know?” I wondered.
“About what?” Nicole rejoined cluelessly.
I cringed, “The crush thing.” I didn’t like talking about it, and was a little regretful that I brought it up. Even if my curiosity was killing me.
“Oh, I told her about that when we got together. You know, ’cause you and me were at the club together?”
I couldn’t imagine starting a relationship with someone and admitting right off the bat that I had feelings for someone else. “You’re so brave, Nicole. I don’t think I could have done the same.”
“How am I brave?” she honestly wondered. Okay, maybe she Betturkey Güncel Giriş wasn’t brave, and was just that… well, saying she was dumb about it is mean, but wholly accurate.
“Nevermind Nic. Not important. So, got plans for the night?”
She nodded decisively. “Date with Ava. Hopefully she’s, like, done with making me wait, and I’ll get laid tonight. I’m so totally horny, you don’t even know!”
I face-palmed. Yes, Nicole was my best friend, but there was still a limit to how much she should share. Come to think of it, that’s probably how she told Ava about her attraction to me.
I really didn’t want to talk about it, so I didn’t prompt her further. Nicole didn’t mind, and kept talking regardless.
“Little Richard the second totally fits into this harness I got, and hopefully one of us is going to wear that tonight. I’m, like, so totally excited to find out which one she prefers!”
My mind got caught in a loop of picturing Nicole plowing Ava from behind with a strap-on that was a near match for my own equipment, and it took minutes to break myself free.
By the time I swam back up into the real world, Nicole had a knowing, laughing grin on her face and I was seriously pitching a tent in my pants.
“That was mean, Nicole.” There wasn’t any point in trying to hide my erection, given that she’d already noticed it. I still picked up my backpack from between my feet and put it into my lap.
She rolled her eyes. “Oh Vonnie, you need to like, just relax. I’m just glad that I can affect you like you can affect me. I was totally starting to have some doubts about myself lately.”
I blew out a breath. This could be touchy, and my palms started to sweat a bit. “I’m really, really sorry if I hurt your self-esteem, Nicole. Honestly, you’re one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen, let alone met. Keep in mind that I work with professional models now. But I’m with Drew, and way happy, so I won’t let myself show it. You’re hot, okay? Don’t doubt yourself.”
Nicole’s eyes watered a bit. “You are such a good friend, Vonnie,” she sniffed. “Thanks.”
“Uh, sure. No problem. Just, uh… talking about this makes me really uncomfortable, so can we just not, anymore? Please?”
Nicole looked confused. “Why?”
I blinked, “Why what?”
“Like, why does it make you uncomfortable? When people think I’m hot and fuckable, it’s like, totally this way sincere compliment!”
I had never thought about it from that angle. Maybe I should start. “You’ve got a point there. Still, it bothers Drew, so I’m uncomfortable with being caught in the middle here.”
Nicole rapped her fingernails on the steering wheel in quick successions while she thought that over. “Yeah, I can see that. Okay. We’ll just say that you’re hot, and I’m hot too, and we know this about each other, so we don’t have to ever say it out loud again.”
The relieved chuckle left me before I even knew it was there. “Thanks, Nic. Really.”
I knew what I was doing with my night to myself now. Watching videos of cute puppies and/or cats being jerks to scrub the mental image of Nicole and Ava going at it from my mind.
It was the closest thing to brain-soap I had.
******
I wandered into the living room on Sunday, determined to at least start talking with my Mom again.
I didn’t get a chance on Saturday, as I was gone for work by the time she woke up and she was gone for work by the time Drew and I got home.
“Mom? Can we talk?” I started.
She shifted in the recliner to get a little more comfortable, and her face morphed into this smug, self-assured smile. “Things finally blew up with that girl, did they? I told you so, Kevin.”
I closed my eyes briefly and debated counting to ten to get my anger down. It had never worked for me before though, so I let the opportunity slide by. I put my pleasant face on and said, “No, actually. I had dinner with her and her parents on Thursday. It went well, from what she told me after.”
“So… what, here to rub it in now?” she asked mulishly.
So be it. I was officially done. “Jesus, Mom! Not everyone and everything is an attack against you! I’m sorry I even tried to talk to you again. Every single thing I say, you twist into the worst possible way and counterattack. I love you, Mom, but you’re making it so hard to even like you lately.”
I walked away, not willing to give her a chance to respond. I slipped into my sneakers, and left the house for a long, long walk to cool off. I wasn’t stepping back in there today until after she’d left.
******
I checked my makeup carefully. It needed to be perfect to spend the afternoon in public with Renee. I turned my head to the left, then the right, checking the angles. It looked pretty darn good, in my opinion. My hair was parted in the center, reaching nearly to my chin now where it hung loose. A pair of barrettes held my bangs up, and a little bit of gel kept the fly-aways on top in control.
I smoothed the dress down as I walked from the upstairs bathroom to the living room to wait. There just weren’t that many days left before the snow came, so I wanted to get some dress and skirt time in before it became uncomfortable. As it was, native Oregonians were going to be looking at me like I was a tourist. No one acclimated to this locale was still baring her legs.
